Conversation on Akufo-Addo’s failure to provide Mahama’s entitlements as former President emanates; social media reacts

As Ghana transitions from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, some leading members of the NDC are reminding Ghanaians of the fact that former President John Dramani Mahama was not provided with his entitlements.

An interview of the now president-elect, John Dramani Mahama, complaining about the failure of the government to provide him with an office space and a residence and to pay his bills has resurfaced on especially social media.

It is not clear why the discussion of emoluments deserved by former Presidents has come up at this particular point in time.

Deputy Campaign Spokesperson for the John Dramani Mahama campaign, Beatrice Annan has continuously reminded her followers of the fact that president John Dramani Mahama even though was due some payments and other emoluments, the government led by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo refused to fulfil them.

Her post shared via social media read “For 8 years, the NPP treated Mahama unfairly. Today, they say it is regrettable. President John Mahama survived it and won an election with the biggest gap”.

This position was also expressed by campaign spokesperson and aide, Joyce Bawa Mogtari “This brings back so many memories of another era! The only thing that makes me happy is the fact that HE John Mahama won by a landslide, 57.7% in one election is indeed a gargantuan victory, however, be that as it may, Akufo Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, refused to let him remain in that small Cantoments house and after eight years in office they have still not been able to provide, HE

The President Elect with the official house and the office accommodation. The office we are currently operating in is a rented office and he lives in his own house. Yayra Koku we have suffered oh and today God has been good to JM!

Adding that “I am surprised that people are surprised that the NPP government refused HE President Mahama a simple four bedroom house. We said this so many times and got plenty insults in response“.

Similar positions like these have been expressed by some leading members of the government in waiting who believe the president-elect must engage in a tit for tat paying Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia back for the ill-treatment meted out to him as a former president.
