Why exclude interested parties? – Ayikoi Otoo questions NPP lawyers

Former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice Ayikoi Otoo has expressed his dissatisfaction with the legal approach taken by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in a recent Supreme Court case.

His comments follow the court’s ruling on Friday, December 27, which nullified the re-collation of votes in four key constituencies: Tema Central, Ablekuma North, Techiman South, and Okaikwei Central.

Speaking on JoyNews’ News File, Ayikoi Otoo questioned why the NPP’s legal team chose to exclude National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidates from their application for a mandamus order.

“I have a problem with the NPP lawyers who went to court because we all know there are interested parties in this matter,” he stated, his tone revealing frustration with what he described as a fundamental misstep.

He elaborated further, pointing out the procedural implications of the omission. “Usually, when you have a case like this, you must include the interested parties.

“So, clearly, why do you leave them out?” Otoo asked, suggesting that the exclusion of the NDC candidates may have weakened the NPP’s case.
