Dr. Arthur Kennedy has delivered a sharp critique of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s leadership in the party’s recent campaign.
In an open letter that has sparked widespread discussion, the medical doctor and former presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Kennedy expressed his deep disappointment with the Vice President’s role in leading the NPP during the 2024 general elections.
“Then we picked the public face of this crime against Ghanaians—the man who argued that one dollar to four cedis was too high but the fundamentals were sound, with one dollar now at 16 cedis,” Dr. Kennedy wrote, highlighting what he sees as a glaring contradiction in Dr. Bawumia’s economic stewardship and rhetoric.
Dr. Kennedy’s critique reflects growing unease within sections of the party following their electoral defeat.
Once hailed as a skilled communicator and a transformational figure, Dr. Bawumia’s image has been significantly challenged by the economic difficulties Ghana faced under his watch.
“The man we touted as the most influential VP in our history transformed into a mere aplanke (a passenger’s assistant) at election time,” Dr. Kennedy lamented, suggesting that the Vice President failed to rise to the occasion during the campaign.
