Three dead, several injured in Cape Coast-Accra Highway crash


A tragic accident at the Aggrey Memorial Zion Senior High School Junction on the Cape Coast-Accra Highway has claimed three lives and left several others injured.

The Central Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), DOIII Abdul Wasiu Hudu, provided details of the incident during a media briefing.

He explained that a Yutong bus with registration number GW 6231-21, travelling from Takoradi to Accra and carrying 53 passengers, overturned and landed on its side, trapping some passengers beneath the vehicle.

“Our officers from the Ghana National Fire Service, in collaboration with the police and ambulance services, were able to rescue all the casualties,” DOIII Wasiu Hudu stated.

“The injured were transported to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital and the University of Cape Coast Hospital for medical care.”

Medical practitioners at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital confirmed that three passengers had died, while others sustained various degrees of injuries.

DOIII Wasiu Hudu disclosed that 23 victims are currently receiving treatment at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, with nine others treated and discharged.
