“Drones Used by Terrorists Are Toys” — DHQ [VIDEO]

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has downplayed the threat posed by drones used by terrorist groups, describing them as “toys” that are not military-grade.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the disclosure was made by Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, during a press briefing.

According to him, the drones are not effective and do not pose a significant threat in the counter-terrorism war.

Speaking in Abuja on Friday, Buba noted that the use of drones in battles is not new, as they have different classes and capabilities. However, he emphasized that the drones used by terrorist groups are not professional or military-grade.

“We are having a war against terrorists and insurgents across the country. When we are talking of drones, these are not professional drones, not military-grade drones. These are toys that you went to buy and found a way to put one or two things on board and use them,” Buba said.

He also reiterated the Federal Government’s position that there is no foreign base anywhere in Nigeria, describing the rumoured French base in Nigeria as mischievous.

The development follows reports of a Christmas day drone attack on military bases in Yobe and Borno states, injuring at least six soldiers. The military is, however, yet to comment on the reports.
