14 Killed in Fresh Plateau Community Attack


Fourteen people have been reportedly killed in a fresh attack by bandits in Ri Do, a village in Riyom local government area of Plateau State.

Popularly, Irigwe natives from Bassa LGA, residents of the community were said to have already organised a mass burial for the victims of the fatal attack.

In a statement issued on Monday, the national publicity secretary of the Irigwe Development Association (IDA) , Sam Jugo confirmed the attack and its fatality.

Jugo said once he heard the news of the attack, he dispatched a member of IDAs executive to the scene for verification.

According to Jugo, reports from the emissary indicate that the bandits killed 14 people in cold blood while a 32-year-old lady, identified as Linda Moses is currently receiving medical attention from injuries sustained during the attack.

He further called for restrained from the people while urging the security agencies to immediately swing into action and arrest the perpetrators while ensure that such incident does not recur.

His words, “Our hearts bleed for the demise of our kinsmen whom we hoped to spend this Yuletide together but their lives were cut short. May their souls rest in peace with their maker and God’s comfort to their immediate families and the Irigwe nation.”

Also confirming the incident, Musa Ashoms, the commissioner for information and communication, Plateau State, condemned the attack.

Ashoms called on security agencies to  go after the perpetrators with a view to apprehend them.
