The Ashaiman District Football Association in the Greater Accra Region has officially joined the nationwide Girls Colts League initiative, a ground-breaking competition. This league is part of efforts to bridge the gap in women’s football development across Ghana.
In an effort to address disparities and foster talent in women’s football, the GFA Executive Council, under the leadership of President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, introduced the Girls Colts League to be played in every district across the country.
The league is designed to groom and develop young girls at the grassroots level, providing them with a solid foundation before progressing to the Women’s Division One League at the regional level.
Following the successful launch in Tema District, Ashaiman has now followed suit, marking another milestone in the expansion of women’s football in Ghana.
The maiden edition of the Ashaiman Girls Colts League kicked off on December 15, 2024, at the Ashaiman Cluster of Schools Park. The event was a significant step forward in the district’s commitment to promoting and nurturing young female talent in football.
The excitement continues with Match Day 2 set to take place on December 21, 2024, at the Gbestile Town Park. The line-up promises thrilling encounters:
- Klagon Ladies will face Gold Ladies.
- Limo Girls will clash with Catalonia Ladies.
- The day will conclude with a showdown between Mighty Girls and White Dove Ladies.
These fixtures are expected to attract fans from across the district, providing a platform for young players to showcase their skills and passion for the game.
This developmental league is a testament to the association’s commitment to nurturing talent and promoting girls’ football nationwide. By focusing on grassroots development, the league aims to create a sustainable pipeline of talent, ensuring that young players have the opportunity to progress to higher levels of competition.
