The Embassy of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) marked the 53rd National Day of the UAE with a grand celebration on Monday, December 2nd at the Kempinski Gold City Hotel in Accra.
The event, held under the leadership of Chargé d’Affaires Dr. Badreyya AlShehhi, brought together distinguished guests to celebrate the enduring friendship between the UAE and Ghana and reflect on the UAE’s remarkable achievements after 53 years of its founding.
The Ghana Armed Forces Band set a ceremonial tone with renditions of the UAE and Ghana National Anthems, signaling the spirit of unity and partnership that defined the occasion.
The celebration was attended by a host of notable dignitaries, including Hon. Herbert Krapa, Minister of Energy of Ghana who delivered a speech on behalf of the government of Ghana; Hon. Elizabeth Kwatso Sackey, Mayor of Accra; Nii Nortey Owuo IV, Paramount Chief of Osu Traditional Area, Ambassadors, High Commissioners, and members of the diplomatic corps in Ghana.
Also in attendance were prominent business leaders, academics, and members of the Gulf and Emirati communities in Ghana.
In her speech, Dr. AlShehhi underscored the significance of UAE National Day, describing it as a symbol of unity, progress, and vision. She highlighted the UAE’s continued efforts to promote global peace and security while fostering partnerships with nations like Ghana.
Dr. AlShehhi emphasized the strength of UAE-Ghana relations, particularly in areas such as trade, education, and renewable energy. She said trade between UAE and Ghana was US$3.91Billion in 2023 alone.
She assured Ghana of Abu Dhabi’s unwavering commitment to deepening collaboration and achieving mutual goals.
Representing Ghana, Honourable Herbert Krapa extended greetings on behalf of President Nana Akufo-Addo. In his speech, Mr. Krapa praised the “strong, robust, and fruitful” relationship between Ghana and the UAE, reflecting on key developments such as President Akufo-Addo’s historic state visit to Abu Dhabi in 2019 and many exchanges thereafter.
Speaking on behalf of the government, Mr. Krapa expressed gratitude to the UAE for its continued support; acknowledging the UAE’s generous US$30 million grant for nature-based community development on climate solutions.
Additionally, Ghana extended appreciation for the UAE’s recognition of the Ministry of Education at the 2024 GovTech Prize during the World Government Summit, where the Ghana Education Outcomes Project (GEOP) was celebrated for its success in enhancing learning outcomes.
