NPP to look into why 2 million of their voters failed to show up on election day—Nana Akomea

A leading member of the Dr Mahamudu Bawumia campaign team, Nana Akomea has given a strong indication that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will look into what led to over two million NPP voters deciding against voting.

He says that will also form the basis of the post-mortem that the party will engage in after losing the 2024 elections.

Nana Akomeah was speaking to Accra-based Citi FM when he made this disclosure.

He said, “What we need to do is to find out the reason, some of the key reasons that made them stay away because they didn’t even go to the polls to vote for the party”.

Nana Akomea whose analysis was based on the 2020 results stated that “Our votes reduced from 6.7 in 2020 to 4.6. Those two million people we don’t find them anywhere. We don’t find them voting for Mahama, we don’t find them voting for Alan Kyerematen and so on. So it is fair to assume that they stayed away”.

In the December 7 poll, President-elect John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) secured a decisive victory with over 6.3 million votes, while Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP garnered 4.6 million votes.

In Parliament, the NDC swept several seats that, hitherto, were occupied by the New Patriotic Party.
