In the aftermath of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s defeat in the 2024 presidential elections, Educationist Prof. David Millar has come forward with a nuanced perspective on the NPP flagbearer, offering a more balanced view of his character and conduct.
Despite his crushing defeat at the hands of John Dramani Mahama, Prof. Millar praised Dr. Bawumia’s principles and pleasant nature, while also acknowledging the challenges he faced in his communication style.
“Generally, he’s a pleasant fellow,” Prof. Millar stated during an interview. “He’s very pleasant and he’s very principled. Only that his style of presenting issues normally goes a bit too far.”
The remark sheds light on a key aspect of Dr. Bawumia’s public persona: his bold, often unwavering approach to addressing issues. For many, his unfiltered manner has earned both admiration and criticism.
Prof. Millar pointed out that Dr. Bawumia’s tenacity in advocating for his views sometimes alienates his audience. “He’s going on an issue. And you say, ‘Oh, this man, can’t you stop here?’ Especially with those of us who are elderly. Then he goes beyond, and the beyond one now causes trouble.”
This straightforward observation resonates with a broader audience, particularly those who have witnessed Dr. Bawumia’s high-energy, often assertive speeches that sometimes escalate beyond the intended point. Prof. Millar’s critique reflects the challenge of balancing passion with restraint in political discourse.
While acknowledging that Dr. Bawumia’s communications may at times be perceived as excessive, Prof. Millar also clarified that these instances shouldn’t be viewed as malicious.
“So, they say he’s a liar, you see,” Prof. Millar continued, “but it’s not a complete lie. It’s a truth that has been embellished a bit but wrongly so, you see. So, he’s not a bad person.”
