Abia State Governor Alex Otti Reveals His ‘Godfather’, Speaks on External Influences

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has declared that his only “godfather” is the God in heaven.

Otti made the remarks during a Thanksgiving service held at St. James Methodist Church in Umuda, Isingwu, Umuahia North Council, organized by Hon. Smart Ihuoma, the Mayor of the council.

The sole Labour Party governor said he is committed to an open-door policy, acknowledging the complications associated with political sponsorship and the pressure exerted by benefactors on those in office.

Otti assured that his administration operates independently, without external dictation.

He stated, “One of the challenges in politics is that when people enter office on the support or finances of someone else, it becomes easy for that person to dictate to them,” Otti said.

“But I can assure you that we are standing on our feet. Our only godfather is the God in heaven. We operate an open-door policy, so we are willing to listen to suggestions, but they will not be treated as orders.

“By the time we are done serving, those with nothing to offer will find it impossible to contest elections in Abia State.”

Otti believes his administration’s accomplishments will set a benchmark, challenging individuals lacking substance in future Abia State elections. He drew parallels with the state’s transformation under Dr. Chris Ngige’s leadership in 1999, which he said established a standard for subsequent governors.

“Since that time, the citizens of Anambra have remained vigilant in protecting their democracy to prevent a regression to previous unfavourable conditions,” Otti remarked.

Otti expressed satisfaction with increasing public engagement and reiterated his dedication to transparency through regular media interactions.
