Nana Ohene Ntow, former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and now a leading member of Alan Kyerematen’s breakaway Movement for Change party, has heaped praise on Inspector-General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare for his exceptional leadership during Ghana’s December 7 elections.
In an interview on TV3, he highlighted the critical role Dampare’s security strategy played in maintaining stability in what could have been a tumultuous period for the nation.
“To be frank, Ghanaians must stand up for Dampare. His security arrangement and strategic planning saved this country,” Ntow said, emphasizing the importance of the IGP’s approach.
Reflecting on challenges during the elections, he revealed how some military personnel acted outside the bounds of their mandate.
“We saw how some recalcitrant soldiers behaved, but Dampare insisted that the only time the military would be officially deployed would be under his instruction, and he stayed committed to his promise. God bless him for the work he did,” he added.
The December 7 elections were marked by heightened political tensions and widespread fears of violence, driven by past incidents of unrest during electoral seasons.
In such a charged environment, Dampare’s leadership became the cornerstone of ensuring peace.
His insistence on centralized decision-making regarding the deployment of security forces prevented rogue actions and reassured the public of a transparent and professional approach to maintaining order.
