Jean Mensah’s resignation or removal is not Mahama’s priority—Haruna Iddrisu

Former Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu has questioned Joyce Bawa Mogtari’s calls for the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission to resign from her position.

He believes that until the EC Chairperson has misconducted herself, there will be no need to change the person who occupies the position.

To him, John Dramani Mahama is not concerned about who is the chairperson of the commission.

Haruna was speaking to Accra-based TV3 when he made this known.

“That who should resign? Over what? Charlotte Osei was chairperson of the electoral commission, but they had issues with her because of procurement. If Jean Mensah too has procurement issues, that will determine her future.

Why will you change the chairperson of the electoral commission? These are not matters that are of primary concern to President Mahama. I beg you no, where Jean Mensah is. Jean Mensah does not determine who rules Ghana, Ghanaians determine who rules Ghana,” he said on TV3.

Joyce Bawa Mogtari while speaking in an interview with Accra-based Channel 1 Television indicated that she thought the Electoral Commission Chairperson should have resigned.

She was of the view that the commission is overly partisan and will need to be cleansed.

“I was thinking the EC Chairperson was going to resign yesterday. We are in a circular state and you spend all this time telling us what to do and what not to do.

My brother, they’ve been incompetent to say the least. There are too many partisans there. When the will of the people is up against you there is nothing that can stop it. One of the reasons why we are experiencing violence is because it took too long for the EC to declare the results,” she said.
