Nigerian lawyer and human rights activist, Dele Farotimi has arrived at the Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti state for the hearing on the defamation allegation levelled against him by Afe Balalola.
Farotimi who arrived at the magistrate at about 10 am on Tuesday, December 10, was accompanied by officials of the Nigeria Correctional Services (NCS).
He was brought into the court premises in a black van trailed by the an operational vehicle of the NCS with both defence and plaintiff counsels already present in the courtroom.
Recall that the lawyer was arrested in Lagos over a petition by Babalola accusing Farotimi of maligning his name and person.
The court on Monday, granted Farotimi bail of N50 million, with a surety of equal value who must reside in Ekiti State and possess landed property. He was also requested by the court to deposit his travel passport.
While Farotimi’s arrest have continued to create growing outrage among many Nigerians, several leaders including Peter Obi have tried to weld into the matter.
