About 50 women, children kidnapped as bandits attack Zamfara community


About 50 people, mostly women and children have been kidnapped from Kakidawa ward in the Gidan Goga district of Maradun Local Government Area, Zamfara State.

Daily Trust reports that the individuals were kidnapped at about 2 am on Sunday by some bandits.

A source who spoke on the incident said a total of 43 people including women and children were abducted by the bandits.

“We have counted 43 people, including three adult males and 40 women and children, who were taken by the bandits during the attack,” the source said.

The source added that some men who were heavily armed stormed the village where they fired sporadically leaving people scampering for safety.

According to the source, while some men flew into the bush, the women and children who could not escape were take away at gunpoint.

Other residents of the community also stated that the bandits are yet to contact the families of those taken away.

Another source described the incident as a terrible ordeal.

He said, “The entire village was gripped by fear as gunshots echoed throughout the operation. We have turned to prayers for the safe return of our loved ones, particularly given the harsh harmattan weather conditions.

“While local vigilante members were caught off guard, residents believe resistance might have been possible if the vigilantes had been prepared.

“We need security. These bandits are ruthless and can strike again,” the resident added.
