Speed Darlington’s case yet to be assigned to a court, as lawyer accuses police of illegal detention

The lawyer representing Darlington Okoye, an American-based Nigerian singer and influencer has accused the police of illegally detaining his client.

Deji Adeyanju said the police have refused to release the singer over allegations leveled again at him by Grammy Award singer, Burna Boy.

In his post on X, Adeyanju also accused the police of refusing to take his client before a court for trial.

He said the police had claimed that Mr Okoye is a flight risk while in the actual sense, he was released by the same police for a trip to the United States of America.

Adeyanju posted, “The @PoliceNG @PoliceNG_CRU have refused to release Speed Darlington or take him before a judge to face trial on the childish excuse that the last time they released him to me, he travelled to the US.

“This narrative is false because we told them he was going to US to return,” he shared.

In another post, the lawyer said his team has done everything needed for Okoye’s case to be assigned to a court.

His words, “We have done the needful on speed Darlington but the case has not been assigned by the court.”
