Labour Party’s governorship candidate in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has signalled his intention to contest again for the governorship position.
Reflecting on lessons learned from the last election, he expressed determination to strengthen his political movement and stay visible in opposition politics.
Speaking in an interview on Iyabo Ojo TV, Rhodes-Vivour criticized the trend of opposition parties fading into silence post-election, a pattern he vowed to break.
“By God’s grace, we are working. We gained a lot of traction, saw our mistakes, and identified loopholes.
“I think the biggest mistake in Lagos politics is the opposition going quiet after elections—that is not happening this time,” he declared.
Rhodes-Vivour criticised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, accusing it of lavish spending amidst widespread hardship in Lagos.
“For instance, we called out that Governor Sanwo-Olu is using taxpayers’ money to pay his personal legal bills.
“There’s almost ₦200 million spent on vague projects and ₦2 billion allegedly allocated for fans and consultants for bus networks,” he alleged.
He reiterated the need for accountability, stating, “Our government must use taxpayers’ money efficiently, especially given the level of suffering Nigerians and Lagosians are enduring.”
Rhodes-Vivour revealed ongoing community-focused initiatives led by his movement, including health outreach programs and micro-health insurance plans that offer free treatment worth up to ₦6,000.
“We’re engaging Lagosians, providing health outreaches, and ensuring people have access to care while staying informed about current affairs,” he noted.
