The Electoral Commission of Ghana has officially named John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, as the winner of the 2024 Presidential Election.
The announcement, made late on the evening of December 9, 2024, marks the culmination of a fiercely contested race.
Jean Mensa, the chairperson of the Electoral Commission and the returning officer for the presidential elections took to the podium to make the declaration.
“We have honoured our commitment to upholding transparency in every aspect of this process,” she remarked, emphasizing the commission’s dedication to a fair and open election.
With a decisive 56.55% of the vote, Mahama surpassed his closest rival, Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), by a margin of 6,328,397 votes.
Mahama, who previously held the presidential office from 2012 to 2016, has now secured a second term, ushering in a new chapter in Ghana’s political landscape.
