Akufo-Addo Congratulates Mahama, Pledges Peaceful Transition of Power


President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has extended his congratulations to President-elect John Dramani Mahama on his decisive victory in the 2024 presidential election.

This announcement follows the official declaration of the results by Jean Mensa, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, on the evening of December 9, 2024.

In a statement issued by Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications at the Presidency, Akufo-Addo affirmed his commitment to ensuring a seamless transfer of power, scheduled for January 7, 2025.

He also expressed optimism about collaborating with Mahama’s team during the transitional phase.

“I called President-elect Mahama to congratulate him on his victory,” Akufo-Addo revealed. “Our conversation centered on our shared responsibility to ensure a smooth transition. I am committed to supporting the incoming administration in this regard.”

The President also lauded the Electoral Commission for overseeing a successful election that has bolstered Ghana’s reputation as a stronghold of democracy in Africa.

He highlighted the invaluable contributions of Ghanaians and stakeholders in maintaining peace and credibility throughout the electoral process.

“This election reaffirms the strength of our democracy,” he stated.

“The active participation of Ghanaians and the commitment of the Electoral Commission have ensured that our democratic values remain intact. I call on all Ghanaians to unite and work together as we consolidate the gains of our democratic journey.”
