Celebrated investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has praised Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for conceding defeat in the 2024 presidential election even before the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) declares the results, asserting that his show of maturity and leadership bode well for the future of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
For him, Bawumia’s concession speech has calmed nerves and curbed rising tension, winning him many hearts despite his defeat at the December 7 polls.
Mr Azure Awuni is convinced that Dr Bawumia’s posturing may ensure a return of “sanity” to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“Even before the EC announced the presidential results of the first constituency, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has conceded defeat to calm nerves and curb the rising tension. He appreciated everyone, including the media, for their role in the election. He has won many hearts despite the defeat.
Thank you, sir, for this show of maturity and leadership. With this posturing, sanity may return to the NPP soon,” he wrote.
Provisional results show that John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has won the presidential election convincingly while the NDC has won a huge majority in Parliament.
