Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, the former Majority Leader in Parliament, has made a passionate appeal to the people of the Ashanti region.
Speaking during an appearance on Angel FM in Kumasi, he urged the region’s supporters to continue backing the New Patriotic Party (NPP), especially in light of recent remarks by members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Mensah Bonsu made it clear that the NDC’s criticism of the NPP government and its ongoing projects, particularly the Suame Interchange, should serve as a warning to Ashanti voters.
“The NDC has already shown its intent to undermine the work of President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration,” he said. “This is evident in their stance on the Suame Interchange, a project that is transforming the region.”
The Suame Interchange, a major infrastructure project aimed at improving the traffic flow in one of Kumasi’s busiest areas, has been a point of contention between the NPP and the NDC. While the NPP touts it as part of their development agenda for the Ashanti region, the opposition has cast doubt on its legitimacy.
Dr. Ato Forson, the Minority Leader in Parliament, recently labeled the project a “sham” designed solely to win votes in the Ashanti region.
Speaking on Otec FM’s political talk show Dwabrem, Forson claimed that there had been no parliamentary approval for the project, a statement that has ignited heated debate.
“The Suame Interchange is just to win votes from Ashanti. Let me tell you this, there hasn’t been any approval from parliament for the project,” he asserted, challenging the NPP to provide documentation to back its claims.
However, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu did not take kindly to these accusations. In his interview on Angel FM, he refuted Forson’s claims and labeled them as a strategic attempt by the NDC to halt any progress in the Ashanti region.
“The NDC has made it clear that they have no interest in supporting the development of this region. Their actions speak volumes,” he stated. He urged the people of Ashanti to look beyond political rhetoric and recognize the tangible progress that the NPP is bringing to their communities.
Mensah Bonsu further emphasized that the Suame Interchange is just one example of the NPP’s commitment to the region, pointing to other ongoing projects that have already improved infrastructure and boosted local economies.
“The NPP has always had the Ashanti region at heart,” he declared. “And we will not let the NDC undermine the work we’ve done and the future we are building for the people here.”
