The daughter of James Ibori, a former governor of Delta State, Erthiatake Ibori-Suenu has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Erthiatake left the PDP for the APC on Thursday, December 5, 2024.

In the same vein, four lawmakers of the House of Representatives who are members of the Labour Party dumped the party for the ruling APC.

The lawmakers who have newly joined the APC are Tochukwu Okere (Imo), Donatus Mathew (Kaduna), Bassey Akiba (Cross River), and Iyawe Esosa (Edo).

The defection of the lawmakers was confirmed by Mr Mathew who represents Kaura Federal Constituency of Kaduna State.

Speaking on his defection from Labour Party to APC, Mathew said his decision is based on conviction of what the ruling party has to offer him.

Mathew who had won a seat at the House of Representatives under the Labour Party as a motorcycle rider in the 2023 election said, “You cannot just work on the decision of the people at the constituency level because you are dealing with people with different levels of understanding.

“I am taking this decision based on conviction. That is why whether you like it or not, there are people within the constituency who are convinced that it (defection) is the right decision for them. There are those who are skeptical waiting for the outcome,” he said.

The lawmakers made their intention known to the ruling party on the floor of the plenary at the House of Representatives.

Their letter of defection was read to the House members by the Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.
