Ghanaian actors Big Akwes and Yaw Dabo recently had an amusing run-in with German police, showcasing the lighter side of the challenges Dabo’s stature can create when travelling abroad.
Speaking on Okukuseku The Talk Show with Emelia Brobbey, Big Akwes shared the hilarious tale of how a routine trip in Hanover turned into a comedy of errors.
“We were travelling through Hanover, and everything seemed fine until the police pulled us over,” Big Akwes began, with a chuckle.
The officers, he explained, had spotted Yaw Dabo fast asleep in the back seat of their vehicle. “They thought he was a child travelling without proper supervision,” he added, laughing at the memory.
Big Akwes continued the story, recounting how the officers approached him with concern. “They came straight to me and asked, ‘Where is this child’s babysitter?’ I was confused for a moment, but then I realized they were talking about Dabo. At that point, I had to wake him up and explain the situation.”
Despite Dabo’s protestations, the officers were unconvinced and insisted on further clarification. “Even after he woke up, they still thought he was a minor,” Akwes said. “I had to pull out his passport and show them his age. It was only after they verified his details that they realized their mistake.”
Big Akwes described how the officers, embarrassed by the misunderstanding, quickly apologized. “They were very polite and admitted it was an honest mistake.
Honestly, I don’t blame them,” he said with a grin. “With Dabo’s size and youthful appearance, anyone could have made that assumption.”
The story, while funny, highlights a recurring theme in the life of Yaw Dabo, whose diminutive stature has often led to such misunderstandings. “We laughed about it afterwards,” Akwes said. “Dabo handled it well, but it just goes to show the unique challenges he faces, even as a grown man.”
