Stop releasing students to welcome me, Wike issues strong warning to principals


Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory has warned school principals against releasing students to welcome him any time he visits.

The minister gave the warming while  commissioning the construction of a 9.8-kilometre road from Kabusa to Takushara at the permanent site of Government Secondary School Kabusa on Tuesday, November 3, 2024.

He was reacting to the line up of students who were out of class to welcome him when he was on the area.

Stating that the practice is students lining up to welcome dignitaries during the it visit is had and not welcome, Wike said  such move would no longer be tolerated.

He also urged school management and principals alike to prioritise the welfare of students over ceremonial protocols.

“It is not in our culture, and this will be the last time to see this happen. Nobody should bring students out of their school to line up on the road.

“We will not accept that any longer. Our children deserve the best,” Wike stated.
