Explosion Rocks Zamfara as Bandits Launch Attack, 12 People Killed


Bandits have reportedly attacked Yar Tasha village in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State killing 13 people.

In what appears to be a suspected explosion, a commercial driver converging some passengers was said to have run over a device allegedly planted by the bandits.

The incident, eyewitnesses said occurred about 8 am on Wednesday, December 4.

Residents who spoke about the incident said, this is the second time the bandits would be planting the explosive device along the same axis within a week.

According to the residents, a similar device was suspected to have been planted by the bandits last Sunday.

A 18-seater vehicle who was the sole occupant of the vehicle died in the explosion.

Another resident who pleaded anonymity said, “We recently conducted community work on the road and the bandits used that opportunity to plant the device at one of the spots.

“The victims were rushed to Dansadau General Hospital and no body can ascertain whether they are dead or alive for now. Security personnel comprising soldiers and police have been deployed to the scene of the incident,” the resident said.

He added that the bandits seem to have adopted a new strategy on the Dansadau Road axis.

He called on the state government to ensure measures are put in place to end these attacks by the criminals.
