The National Communications Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, has asserted that Dr. Bawumia is not as knowledgeable about digitization as he has led Ghanaians to believe.
During a panel discussion on UTV’s United Showbiz, Sammy Gyamfi described digitization as the “biggest deception” by Dr. Bawumia. He claimed that Dr. Bawumia managed to mislead some Ghanaians who are not fully informed about the true scope of digitization.
Gyamfi pointed out that the introduction of the Ghana Card was not Dr. Bawumia’s initiative, but rather the work of the National Identification Authority (NIA). He also noted that the NIA building was constructed under the NDC administration.
“Ken Attafuah, the head of the NIA, came to parliament and presented data showing how millions of Ghana Cards were printed using the same system introduced by John Mahama in 2016. Why is Dr. Bawumia claiming ownership of it?” Gyamfi questioned.
He further clarified that the online passport application system was not a project of Dr. Bawumia, but was introduced by former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hannah Tetteh, in 2016.
Gyamfi then pointed to Dr. Bawumia’s claims regarding digitization, asserting that the only significant app he introduced was the COVID-19 app, which Gyamfi described as a vehicle for financial exploitation. “That COVID-19 app has never worked.
It was the biggest scam,” Gyamfi remarked. He also criticized Dr. Bawumia for the Ghana Post GPS app, saying, “After it was introduced, how did it end? Google has spent millions creating GPS for the entire world, yet Dr. Bawumia took an old app called Asaase GPS from the Play Store, rebranded it as Ghana Post GPS, and spent GH2.5 billion.
When I exposed them, they sued me, and I won the case in court.”
