Jinapor questions Bawumia’s credibility as an Economist amid economic crisis

John Abdulai Jinapor has questioned Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s credibility as an economist, raising concerns about his ability to address Ghana’s current economic challenges.

In a recent appearance on Oyerepa TV, the former Deputy Minister of Power discussed the difficulties facing the country under the current administration, with a particular focus on the economy.

“An economy in turmoil cannot support a strong healthcare system, education reforms, or agriculture,” Jinapor stated, explaining that without a healthy economic foundation, it would be impossible for key sectors to thrive.

He likened the situation to “trying to grow a tree in barren soil—it simply won’t work,” emphasizing that economic stability is crucial for national progress.

Jinapor pointed out that Dr. Bawumia, who has been part of the NPP government from the beginning, faces a difficult challenge in trying to convince Ghanaians that he can solve the issues that have developed over time.

“Bawumia has been part of this government from day one. If he couldn’t prevent the economic mess we’re in, how does he expect Ghanaians to believe he can fix it now?” Jinapor asked.

While Bawumia has focused on digitalization as a potential solution, Jinapor believes this is not enough to address the deeper economic issues facing the nation.

“He has run from the economy and now champions digitalization, but the reality is that the economy remains in a difficult state,” Jinapor remarked, expressing concerns over the government’s approach.
