🇳🇬 2nd Africa Military Games Boxing Tournament in Abuja, Nigeria, November 18-30

UGANDA TOPS REGION
▪️ UPDF was the best placed East African Region boxing team in the African Military Games

Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) topped East African Region ahead of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) in the Africa Military Games boxing tournament in Abuja, Nigeria.

The Ugandans were third overall 4-2-0 with KDF, represented by only five boxers, finishing a commendable fourth position 4-1-0 and Tanzania 10th 0-0-2.

Uganda’s impressive showing is a reflection of the strong and popular Champions League, the brainchild of flamboyant Uganda Boxing Federation President Moses Muhangi who is reportedly planning to take a one-week break in Mombasa to celebrate the Abuja victory. Most of the boxers in the team were products of Champions League. Bravo ndugu Muhangi and team.

Nigeria controversially won the overall crown 12-6-5 followed by Algeria 5-1-0 and Ghana fifth 0-3-5.

Most of the 14 participating countries in the boxing event rejected Nigeria’s eight female gold medallists receiving the medals on walkovers because none of them entered the ring for any fight. That’s contrary to IBA’s competition rules which state if a boxer has not fought during a competition he/she will not receive any medal.

Nigeria entered 18 finalists with the eight female boxers on walkovers.

The 10 Nigerians in action in the finals won four gold medals while six lost.
