Former unified lightweight champion George Kambosos has turned to promoter Eddie Hearn in a bid for more massive fights.

Kambosos has signed a co-promotional deal with Eddie Hearn, which will see the Greek-Australian slugger continue working with DiBella Entertainment Inc. and his own Ferocious Promotions.

The 21-3 star will move up to super-lightweight, a bustling division at Matchroom Boxing. He aims to become a two-weight world champion in early 2025, and a title shot is promised as part of the deal, provided he keeps winning.

Since defeating Teofimo Lopez in a stunning upset, Kambosos has never shied away from facing the best. Those three defeats on his resume came against Devin Haney [twice] and Vasiliy Lomachenko, all at home and all for world titles.

The 31-year-old now aims to face fellow countryman Liam Paro after he defends his IBF title against Richardson Hitchins in Puerto Rico in December.

“I’m excited to be aligning myself with Matchroom Boxing. I’m excited to be signed in a co-promotional three-way agreement with my long-time promoter DiBella Entertainment Inc. and Ferocious Promotions,” said Kambosos.

“I have had great success and history when promoted on Matchroom shows, winning my eliminator bout in the UK against Lee Selby. Most notably and memorably, my victory against Teofimo at Madison Square Garden, NYC, to become the world champion in the 135-pound division.

“I am officially announcing that I will be moving up to the 140-pound division, and being signed to Matchroom will give me my continued success and the legacy I want to leave in the sport of boxing.”

Hearn, who adds a seasoned campaigner to his stable, added, “I’m delighted to welcome George to the team. George’s win over Teofimo ripped up the script and showed that George was a man for the big occasion. He’s proved to be a massive draw in Australia and one of the real driving forces behind boxing’s rapid rise Down Under.

“The 140lbs division is littered with big names and great potential clashes. Adding George to that mix only raises the levels, with a possible fight against Liam Paro, a real mouth-watering prospect. If Liam can get the win in a great fight with Richardson on December 7 [the fight could be on].

Lou DiBella, who has worked with Kambosos for years, said, “I’m glad that I was able to make a deal with my old mate Eddie to work with George Kambosos Jr. and Ferocious Promotions.

“Throughout his career, George has been a warrior who never shies away from a challenge, and now he wants to test himself against the top fighters at Junior-Welterweight.

Matchroom works with the best at 140 pounds, including George’s countryman Liam Paro, and, like DiBella Entertainment, is heavily invested in Australia.

“This is a natural partnership,” added the New Yorker.
