Dynamic duo photographers, Twinsdontbeg, have shared their captivating story of how their early passion for music was thwarted by their father’s disapproval.
Speaking on Joy Learning’s The Career Trail, they revealed that their musical aspirations were ignited when they moved to Tema to live with their older sister.
During this period, Tema’s music scene was burgeoning, with artists like Sarkodie, Yaa Pono, and D Cryme launching their careers.
The twins were swept up in this creative wave, frequently visiting studios with these musicians and eventually recording their songs, including collaborations with some of these artists.
“We moved to my big sister in Tema and when we went there, that was when the Tema music was coming up. That was when Sarkodie was at the beginning of his career, Yaa Pono, Yaw Ziggy, Stay Jay, and D Cryme. So, we moved to them and started going to their studio with them,” they narrated.
“We started doing music. We recorded our first song, then we did our second song with D Cryme. Then we did one with Yaw Ziggy,” they added.
Unfortunately, their father who was an elder at church, vehemently opposed their musical pursuits, citing religious concerns.
“Our dad shut us down. He was a Pentecost church elder. Our parents were quite religious. So my dad shut us down and he was like hell no, there’s no way you guys are doing music,” they further explained.
Despite their father’s disapproval, the twins continued to secretly record and promote their music, appearing on TV and radio.
Their father’s discovery of their clandestine activities led to his anger and disappointment, forcing the twins to abandon their music careers.
“We still found a way to still do music regardless. We started going on TV and radio to promote our songs and all that. And every time, people will see it and they will call my dad. And my dad really got pissed and disappointed,” they expanded.
They revealed that their father would have allowed them to do gospel music, but this genre did not align with their interests.
This pivotal experience redirected their path, leading them to explore new passions and eventually become the dynamic duo photographers they are today.
Last week on The Career Trail, we introduced the first part of the conversation, diving into the early life of the twins, stay tuned for the second part of the interview, this Saturday, November 2, as we explore their journey as photographers.
